Scholarship and Financial Aid at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU)

EMU offers a range of scholarships and financial aid programs to support students in their academic pursuits.

All-Inclusive Scholarships (Top 1% of Secondary School Graduates)

  • These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate applicants who rank in the top 1% among secondary school graduates in their home country.
  • Evaluation of scholarship applications takes place at the end of August.
  • Criteria for each country's educational system and international standardized test results are considered, following the list approved by the EMU Board of Trustees.
  • This highly competitive scholarship covers tuition fees for the regular duration of the academic program, provides free accommodation in a double room, and includes three meals a day.
  • Applications should be submitted by the latest 14 August through the provided link.
  • Note: EMU grants this scholarship only for September intakes, and late 100% scholarship applications cannot be considered.

Tuition Fee Waivers (High-Performing Applicants)

  • Undergraduate applicants who have demonstrated high performance in their home country's university entrance system may qualify for this scholarship.
  • Only two best students from each country are eligible to receive this scholarship in each academic year.
  • Scholarship applications are evaluated by the latest 14 August for the upcoming academic semester.
  • Criteria for each country's educational system and international standardized test results are considered based on the list approved by the EMU Board of Trustees.
  • This scholarship covers tuition fees for the regular duration of the academic program.
  • Late 100% scholarship applications cannot be considered.

High Honor Award

  • Undergraduate and associate degree students who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.50 and a CGPA of 3.00 or higher, while completing a normal course load, are eligible for the "High Honor Award."
  • The top ten ranking students within each faculty or school, based on GPA and CGPA, receive this award.
  • Award amounts are determined as follows:
    • The highest-ranking student(s) receive three times the valid gross minimum wage.
    • The second-ranking student(s) receive double the gross minimum wage.
    • The third and further-ranking students receive one gross minimum wage.
  • Rankings are determined at the end of the second semester, with Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPAs) used to resolve ties.

Sports Grant

  • EMU offers sports grants to students who excel in individual or team sports.
  • These grants cover full or partial education costs, including tuition and/or accommodation fees in EMU dormitories.
  • Specific grant details, duration, and conditions are governed by the "Eastern Mediterranean University Sports Grants Application" principles approved by the University Executive Board and the Board of Trustees.

Student Assistantship

  • Student assistantship positions are available in various faculties and administrative departments.
  • Open to all students, these positions require a GPA above 2.0.
  • Vacancies are typically announced at the beginning of each semester, and the monthly stipend is based on hourly rates.

Research Assistantship

  • Graduate students have the opportunity to become research assistants.
  • Full-time research assistants receive tuition fee exemptions and a salary.
  • Part-time research assistantships are also available.
  • Scholarships for research assistants enrolled in postgraduate programs follow the "Regulation for Research Assistant Appointment and Postgraduate Scholarship Application," established by the Senate and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Sibling Discounts

  • Siblings studying at EMU undergraduate or associate degree programs receive discounts:
    • 25% discount for each of the first two siblings who meet specified criteria.
    • Further siblings receive a 75% discount on their tuition fees.
    • Postgraduate students not receiving any other discounts or support for tuition fees can benefit from a 10% discount for siblings.

TRNC State Scholarships

TRNC State Scholarships are scholarship opportunities offered by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) government to international students who wish to pursue higher education in Northern Cyprus.

Eligibility and Application Period
  • Generally the application period is from mid of July – to mid August.
Coverage of the Scholarship
  • Scholarships include tuition, dormitory fees, and a monthly allowance of 200 USD.
Scholarship Committee and Meetings
  • The Scholarship Committee meets twice a year to discuss scholarship matters.
  • All scholarship-related decisions are made by the Scholarship Committee.
  • Students can contact the TRNC Ministry of National Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for inquiries or requests related to scholarships.
Duration and Maintenance of Scholarship
  • The scholarship covers the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Scholarship continuation requires maintaining a minimum academic record (CGPA + GPA) above 2.00 for undergraduate and above 3.00 for graduate students.
  • Failure to meet academic requirements may lead to scholarship warnings and, ultimately, scholarship cancellation.
  • Scholarships are valid for a specified duration: 10 semesters for undergraduate and 4 semesters for graduate programs.
